Community Agreements

We ask for everyone who joins us in the Garden to respect and uphold the following agreements as they enter into this relationship with the land and each other.

  • We are guests: on this land, in this space, and to each other’s stories. We will treat each other and the Land with respect and care.

  • We move with compassion in all that we do.

  • What grows in this place is for us to share. We are stewarding this space for the community so please communicate your needs and ask before taking.

  • We practice reciprocity with the Land and each other. We ask you to give and receive in an equitable manner.

  • All people have a right to safe space. We take care of us, and we do not call the cops under the guise of perceived safety.

  • Be mindful of your positionality.

  • Is the farm physically accessible?
Yes! We invite all people to join us on the land and have made it a priority to create a garden that is accessible. Accessibility information below: There is accessible parking on the street in front of the Tepeyac Clinic or directly in front of the farm. There are also designated accesible spaces in the parking lot behind the farm (entrance is through the alley). There is a ramped entrance on the north side of the farm between the land and the clinic. Two raised beds (that are 3' in height) are directly adjacent to this entrance. These beds contain basil, medicinal herbs, and several varieties of peppers which community members are allowed to harvest at will. All major pathways on the site are 3' in width. There is a wheel-chair accessible to path to the back picnic table which is covered in a wooden arbor. Restrooms and water fountains are located directly behind the farm at the recreation center. The building is open M-Fri from 9:30 am to 7 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 2:30 pm. For more questions on accessibility, please email helen@theabolitiongarden.org!
  • Is the farm open to the public?
Yes! We want to be an accessible community space, and we invite community members to come spend time with us when we are on the land.
  • Is the Abolition Garden a nonprofit?
No. Despite our commitment to community, we do not operate within a nonprofit model solely because we believe that “the revolution will not be funded”, and we want to act in ways that allow us autonomy, are in alignment with our core values, and are not based in performative action. With this in mind, we still accept and deeply appreciate donations as they help us to do this heart-centered work in our community.
